We live in stressful times. Most of us are called upon to deal with great uncertainty, meet increasing demands at work and at home, and to care for ourselves and others with less time and fewer resources than we’d like. Most of us heap self doubt, criticism and alienation from others onto our already heavy loads. We need Increased inner reserves and support, and a more constructive engagement with others.
A fundamental aspect of compassion training is enhancing compassion for the self. Self compassion provides the necessary base from which to reach out effectively into the world, providing emotional fuel for challenges and protection against inevitable disappointments and difficulties. From that firm base we can engage our lives more vigorously and joyfully, even in the face of pain and suffering. This is resilience.
In each weekly RTCT class you will learn research supported methods to develop attention, self care and enhancement of positive engagement with your life and mind. Each week we will practice a new guided meditation, presented in a weekly progression, designed to develop loving kindness and compassion toward oneself and others. Discussion of peer reviewed research from psychology, sociology and neuroscience, and small group exercises will enhance mastery and engagement with the material. Weekly assignments and daily meditations to develop mindfulness and compassion will transform knowledge into experience and positive change. Perhaps most important of all, you will become part of a community of people who are engaged in these vital and remarkable practices. Monthly drop in meetings will be offered for those interested in maintaining a connection with others and to facilitate continued development of one’s practice and engagement with the methods presented.
